My 2020 wild backyard garden

Dedicating a series of posts to the outdoors, a significant piece of my life. I can’t possibly feature the outdoors without honoring my backyard transformation. My neighbors and I demolished an ancient hideous shed, cut down a few trees that were growing too much and would potentially ruin the sewage pipes underground. What you see in the after photos are of my wild garden where I planted various flowers including wild sunflowers and mammoth sunflowers! I didn’t have the capacity to be a proper gardener so I decided to go with a wild garden idea. Cheers to more wild urban gardens across the city of Detroit, with special emphasis on native plants and trees! 🌳 🍃 🌱 🌎

Doing this work during quarantine gave me so much purpose. I recommend it to anyone feeling low. Throw yourself into a project, especially one with the earth. It’s healing and rejuvenating.
